Our history

Located in the heart of the Pas-de-Calais department, just an hour from the port of Calais, the Domaine de la Traxène is a beautiful country manor nestled in the heart of the countryside by the Traxenne River, to which it owes its name. The original building dates back to the late 11th century and was owned by the famous knight Godfrey of Bouillon, leader of the First Crusade and first ruler of the Frankish Kingdom of Jerusalem.

The manor and its outbuildings, built in the French Classical style, were constructed during the 17th century. In 2009, the Braure family purchased the manor, which was in very poor condition, to bring it back to life. For two years, numerous specialized craftsmen worked on the restoration of the estate. The barn was transformed into a reception room, the stables into dormitories. Everything was designed to harmonize the old and the new, making the Domaine de la Traxène a venue for numerous events. A patron of the arts, Isabelle Braure decorated it with antique furniture, artistic craftsmanship, and a variety of works of art.

Our sense of hospitality, our desire to showcase French culture, and our ambition to become a true memory factory have led us to now open the estate to school groups. We offer first-class hospitality, activities, and facilities in a completely secure setting.
